What they will say: “We will try our best to buy the item by next week”
What it could mean: They are not sure if they really want to buy. Most probably they won’t buy

What they will say: “Can you ship the item for free?”
What it could mean: They want win the bargain by getting a free delivery even though they are only buying a single low-priced item

What they will say: “We will get in touch when there is a final decision”
What it could mean: They will leave you hanging and might never contact you again.

What they will say: “I plan to buy in the future. I’m just looking to inquire now.”
What it could mean: We may never know when that will happen.

What they will say: “I know a lot of people I can refer to your company”
What it could mean: I heard this a hundred times. It will never happen. Don’t get your hopes up.

What they will say: “I have tight budget but I could consider your services if you give me a good price”
What it could mean: Stay away from these people. They are only likely to buy at rock bottom rates that leave no profit.

What they will say: “You have to build my trust first”
What it could mean: These are the ones that want to be treated like royalty. But in the end, you will never be able to level with their impossible expectations.

What they will say: “Conceptualize a design for me for FREE”
What it could mean: They are trying to trick you to give them free services.

What they will say: “It’s so expensive here. It’s cheaper some place else”
What it could mean: They will never buy from you knowing that it’s cheaper somewhere else.

What they will say: “I’m just canvassing. There are 10 or more companies that are lined-up for this project”
What it could mean: Their decision might mainly be driven by price.

What they will say: “I’m interested in your services, can we meet somewhere?”
What it could mean: It’s a complete waste of time. They might not even show up in your meeting. Why can’t they just ask their questions over the phone?

What they will say: “If you can give me a good price for my first purchase, I will be your regular client, and I plan to order from you in volume in the future”
What it could mean: Don’t even bother call this bluff. This had been done to me many times already where the person only orders 1 logo design, and wants to get 50% off because he promises to order 10 more logo designs in the future. I never got the 10 job orders that he promised.

What they will say: “I’m planning to open up a business, and I’d just like to inquire about your products and services”
What it could mean: Take note, the person is just planning to open up a business. Most of the time, these rarely convert.

What they will say: “I kind of want this product but I’m not sure. I want something beautiful and eye-catching.”
What it could mean: These people don’t know what they really want. You’re in for a lot of problems.

I always wish that every potential buyer was a good customer. Most of the time they aren’t. But just have patience – one day you’ll be flooded with good paying customers.

Don’t lose sleep over tire kickers.

Read ahead, and I’ll give you some tips on how to avoid and deal with tire kickers. Be sure to read part 1 so you won’t miss out on anything.

How to deal with tire kickers when you meet one

These are a few ways to deal with them so that they won’t waste too much of your time:

1. Respond with a very short answer to their questions. But answer politely to their questions and don’t give them a chance to stick around any longer if you feel that they have no intention of buying from you anyway. I remember one time a prospect buyer told me stories about his life for more than 2 hours without even buying anything. What a big waste of time!

2. If you think that they will be a problem for you, try to refer them to other establishments instead so you won’t have to be concerned anymore. This especially works if they keep on comparing you to your competition.

3. Never send them a message that you’re desperate to make a sale from them. It’s just not worth it.

4. Never show them that you’re irritated or angry because they will do the same to you a thousand fold. I know many that stoop to sharing their bad experience in forums or writing an awful review in their blog about your company.

5. Remember that no matter what they say, you haven’t made a sale yet if you haven’t received the payment. Hundreds of people have told me that they are going to buy my products next week, but it never pushes through.

6. Listen to your prospects first. Use your intuition to decide if you want to discuss more details about your services because some people may not even be interested in what you have to offer.

7. Learn when to let go of your prospect. Don’t feel bad about it because these things happen on a normal basis.

There are some cases where tire kickers eventually become buyers – so don’t give them a cold shoulder immediately after you see the warning signs. Deal with them politely even if you know that they are a tire kicker.

How to avoid tire kickers

Tire kickers have a habit of asking a lot of questions. I know that it’s very unproductive to answer the same questions over and over again.

Listed below are just some solutions that worked for me that you might also want to apply in your company:

1. Ensure that specific details of your products and services are visible either in your advertisement or in your website. This includes the features, delivery, payment methods, contact information, office location, return policy, lead time, product photos, and others.

2. Make all your prices visible to immediately filter out those you aren’t interested.

3. Try to provide a FAQ page in your website so that they can just read through all the questions so you won’t have to answer hundreds of inquiries every day.

Congratulations! If you followed all these steps, tire kickers might not bother you anymore. You’ll have more filtered buyers that will make you money.

In part 3, I will discuss common phrases used by tire kickers and I will explain what each phrase means.

I had my share of problems tire kickers when I opened my retail shop. I had the notion that I should satisfy all prospect customers no matter what. But, these people just went too far. They asked me a lot of crazy questions, made a lot of demands, and haggled for the price but never bought anything afterwards.

Initially, I thought that only a few selected people were like this, but eventually, a lot of them did the same thing. Sometimes, I couldn’t even sleep because I was very frustrated with these people.

Did they intended to waste my time? I know that you’ve probably experienced the same thing in your company. Tell you what – read ahead and I promise that tire kickers won’t be a problem for long.

What the heck are tire kickers?

Tire kickers are people who ask about your products and services with no intention of buying from you. They have been causing serious headaches for several decades already. Be very cautious in dealing with these people as they’re capable of wasting your time and ruining your day.

The word tire kicker originated from the automotive industry where prospective buyers would literally kick the tires of the car. They complain about the most minor faults so they can get huge price reductions. These people can be found across all other industries, and thus, tire kicker became a universal word.

How do you know if a person is a tire kicker?

If you’ve been in your industry long enough, you would immediately know if a person is one. But if not, these are the signs that you should watch out for:

1. Complains about minor problems.

2. Compares you to other companies all the time and gives emphasis why the other company is better than you.

3. Focuses mainly on the price rather than your portfolio.

4. Asks a lot of questions even though everything is already written in your advertisement.

5. Doesn’t know clearly what they want.

6. Demands additional services to be free of charge.

7. Haggles for extremely low prices that doesn’t leave any room for profit.

8. Tells you that your solution doesn’t fit their budget.

9. Doesn’t show up after scheduling a consultation with you.

10. Doesn’t reply to your follow-ups after telling you that they’re interested in your products.

11. Asks for a refund even though you delivered what your promised.

As you can see, Tire kickers are characterized as being bargain hunters. They want you to succumb to solely what they want without even considering if it’s fair or not to both parties.

Times They Be A Changin’

Google has just implemented an algorithm update called the “Freshness Update”. The Freshness Update now displays ”fresher” search results or more specifically results that have been published within days, hours, or even minutes of you searching them. The search results most effected by the Freshness update are celebrities, tv shows, sports related keywords (ie. football, baseball) and any other niche that caters to information that is frequently updated and published. Although this update did not have the far reaching and in some cases devastating effects of Panda it illustrates the monumental shift that is taking place in the online marketing sphere; specifically in how information is shared and evaluated by the search engines.

The long and short of it… content is king. The idea of content marketing isn’t a new one, however, the idea seems to be gaining traction with the most recent algorithm updates. If you have been sitting on the fence about whether you should be blogging or not I believe the writing is now on the wall.

Recommendations For Staying Fresh

• Create a blog and update it frequently
• Incorporate an RSS reader so that fans can stay connected to your blog
• Build out your social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube)
• Communicate and share information via your social networks

These recommendations may be pretty straight forward, however, they will set you on the correct path for capitalizing on the changing online environment.

My Perspective on SEO & the SEO Industry

Times they be a’ changin. The SEO industry has, is, and will continue to experience massive changes to the way we approach building links. The old techniques of bulk directory submissions, article spinning, forum profile creation and blog commenting are very quickly becoming dinosaurs in the industry. This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to SEO professionals but if it does you better start preparing for the shift.

With the advances in social networking primarily Twitter, Google Plus and Facebook the SEO industry is experiencing a fundamental shift in the way campaigns are developed and structured. SEO is now online public relations; short and sweet. Building links in the uber competitive online market now comes from creating great content and distributing that content via a well-planned and executed outreach program. That’s why social networking has had such an enormous effect. Connecting with bloggers, media outlets, webmasters, and organizations has never been easier because we are all plugged in 24/7 via our social profiles.

A Brief Overview of Opensite Explorer

OSE is a competitive analysis and link building tool developed by SEOMoz, one of the world’s leading SEO software providers. OSE is powered by SEOmoz’s web index Linkscape, which acts in a similar fashion to indicies of major search engines. Below are a few examples of the uses for the OSE data:

• Researching the links that point to your site to identify content that discusses you or your organization
• Discovering errors or omissions in the links that point to your site(s) for correction/improvement
• Investigating the link data of a competitor to determine where they’re earning press/attention so you can reverse engineer their marketing efforts
• Comparing link metrics between multiple sites to determine the level of competition / difficulty /importance of your own site in comparison

Compair Link Metrics

Get ready to review your competitive landscape. The Compair Link Metrics tab allows you to do just that, review how your website stacks up in relation to your competitors. There are several metrics displayed on the page (which I will describe in detail below) that are useful in establishing how many times your competitors have “lapped you” (thanks @cstechjoel for the analogy). I tend to focus on the areas that I personally feel have the most significant impact on rankings which typically focuses on external links.

One quick note is that it is important to export this data, or at the very least take a screenshot of the information to use as a baseline measurement. On all pages you have an option to export the data as a CSV file that can be opened within an Excel spreadsheet.

As promised here is a selection of the key metrics that you can explore.

Page Authority:

Predicts this page’s ranking potential in the search engines based on an algorithmic combination of all link metrics.

MozRank:

Our global link popularity metric, calculated in a similar fashion to Google’s PageRank (on a log scale between 1-10).

MozTrust:

Similar to TrustRank, mozTrust estimates the distance from trusted seeds using a PageRank-like calculation.

Internal Followed Links:

Number of followable links that come from pages on the same root domain as this URL.

External Followed Links:

Number of followable links that come from external websites.

Inbound Links

This is a tasty page for sure. The inbound links page allows you to explorer the links, both internal and external, that are pointing to the domain you are researching. My favorite feature of this page is the user’s ability to filter the results. There are a couple of ways you can do it as illustrated in the screenshots below.

Another really neat feature of Opensite Explorer is the Explore icon. Clicking the magnifying glass will analyze the associated website and allow you to view its backlink profile. The functionality is simple but it really speeds up the analysis process.

Top Pages

The next tab in the navigation menu is the Top Pages tab. This page displays the “top pages” on a website and is organized by Page Authority. Here is a screenshot of the interface (I’ve cropped the social metrics; it also includes FB Shares/Links, Tweets, and Google +1, however, I don’t personally find this information particularly useful).

There are literally hundreds of ways that you could potentially use this data, however, I have two that I’ve had excellent success with.

1. Discovering Top Content & Generating Links

1. I start by researching my competitors’ domains by plugging their URL into OSE.
2. Next I use the Top Pages tab to identify the pages that have the highest page authority or most links (in most cases they are one and the same).
3. If for example I discover a top page is a blog titled “50 amazing movie posters”, I will create a similar but more comprehensive blog titled “100 amazing movie posters”.
4. Since OSE allows individual page analysis I will explore the “50 amazing movie posters” page to identify the websites that are linking to it.
5. Next I create a list containing the contact details and social profiles of each website that links to the “50 amazing movie posters” blog to use in my outreach program.
6. Finally and with my outreach list fully developed, I share my newly created and slightly more awesome content with the bloggers/webmasters.
7. I enjoy my win!

2. Discovering 404 Pages & Building Links

1. I start by researching my competitor’s domain by plugging its URL into OSE (common theme for this post).
2. Next I use the Top Pages tab to identify the pages that return a 404 HTTP Status (representing an error page).
3. Unfortunately OSE does not allow for filtering HTTP Status types, so you will need to download the CSV file and open it in Excel.
4. When opened in Excel I filter my results by row and delete all of the pages except the ones that return the 404 error. You’d be surprised just how many 404 pages you can find on large blogs and media websites!
5. With my list of 404ing URLs in hand I now plug them into OSE to discover pages that are linking to the 404 page. As any blogger will tell you broken links are bad for business because they negatively affect the users overall experience. Bad for them but a huge opportunity for us.
6. By now we should have a list of pages that are returning a 404 Error and a list of websites that link to the 404 pages. We are getting close to a win but we still have a ways to go. Reading the URL of the 404 pages will provide you with some basic info about the page (ex. www.cnn.com/pluto-dwarf-planet), however, it doesn’t provide you with the context inwhich the article was written. This creates a bit of a roadblock. Enter www.archive.org and your new best friend. By inserting the 404ing URL into the Way Back Machine you can see an archived screen shot and in some cases a functioning version of the page prior to it 404ing. I can feel a win coming on.
7. Now that the heavy lifting is over, you can create a similar resource to the one you’ve just discovered and publish it to your blog. I don’t recommend plagiarizing the article as that can lead to copyright violations, so make the article your own but use the archived version as a reference.
8. Finally, with all of your ducks in a row, the article published to your blog, and the list of websites linking to the broken page (along with its webmasters contact details) in hand you can begin your outreach program. It doesn’t need to be anymore complicated than…

“Hi, I was just reading your blog and noticed that you are linking to an article on Pluto that returns a 404 error. I have a similar article on my website that contains the same research information and thought it may be a valuable alternative, here is the link www.example.com.

Linking Domains

Next in our list is Linking Domains. For starters this page has a really cool (although I’m not sure how useful) embeddable graph feature.

I can see this graph being translated into a nice KPI for websites with international reach, however, for the average business that caters to a regional audience this graphic is more pretty than useful.

What the Linking Domains page does exceptionally well is group linking pages from individual domains and organize domains hierarchically based on domain authority. I like to use this tool 1. to determine who is linking to my competitors and 2. to establish if I can generate the same or similar links to my website. Clicking the plus sign next to each URL (see screenshot below) will expand to show all pages on the domain that link to the website you are analyzing. Once clicked the Page Authority metrics returns so that you can get a sense of the value of each link.

As I alluded to earlier in this post, the magnifying glass icon is present on most pages within OSE. Clicking it will run an instant page analysis of the linking website.

Anchor Text

We are getting very near the end of my OSE review, so hang in there I have a few more exciting features to share with you. The Anchor Text feature does exactly as the name suggests, it categorizes the domains based on their anchor text. Again this most likely has hundreds of applications that can be explored. A few important data points I pull from this page include:

1. The top legitimate non branded anchor text. This anchor text is a strong indication of the keywords your competitors are targeting.
2. The top spammy non branded anchor text. An abundance of exact match keywords can represent spammy link building techniques. Using OSE it is easy to discover automated directory submission and articles spinning software along with other not-so-pretty techniques.

Advanced Reports

The final drop in the bucket is the Advanced report feature. For all you data heads out there this is going to be a little slice of heaven. The Advanced Reports feature allows you to collect data from OSE for the researched domain. The options include (again this is much easier to visualize from OSE):

1. Select an Advanced Report Type (Inbound Links / Linking Pages, Pages on My Subdomain, Linking Root Domains)
2. Select link Types (Nofollowed, 301, Followed & 301)
3. Select links that come from (External, Internal & Any page)
4. Select the IP Address and C-block settings
5. Select links that link to (Any, Subfolder, Subdomain, and Root Domain)
6. Select links with properties (inside & outside <noscript> tag)

Conclusion

Opensite Explorer is a fantastic tool for researching backlinks, discovering errors on your website, investigating link data of a competitor, and comparing link metrics of multiple domains. The far reaching opportunities available within OSE and the SEOMoz toolset as a whole are quite extensive. Investing some time (and a nominal amount of money) will help you to become a much more powerful SEO.

DoubleClick Placement Tool

For the first post I am going to focus on a tool I’ve just recently discovered. It is called the DoubleClick Ad Planner. For anyone not familiar with DoubleClick, it is a program that provides ad-serving services and is best known for its Pay-Per-Click integration tools. A small point of interest, DoubleClick was purchased by Google in 2007 for a staggering $3.1 billion.

How To Access the Tool

DoubleClick is now a feature of Google’s Adwords program, and can be accessed from within the Adwords Interface (to create a Google Adwords account click the link). Here are the steps for accessing the tool.

1. Login to your Google Adwords account.
2. Under the global navigation link Reporting and Tools, click Placement Tool.
3. Insert your keyword and website address, click search.
4. An expansive list of websites should appear.
5. Click on the magnifying glass beside the website you would like to research.

What Types of Data Does it Provide

There are many unique uses for this tool, however, I am going to focus on the data I find the most valuable. I will be referencing a few descriptions provided by Google where applicable.

Traffic Statistics

The traffics statistics provide data on Unique Visitors, Reach, Page Views, and Total Visits.

Traffic statistics are estimated by combining sample user data from various Google products and services and opt-in direct-measured site-centric data. 

Daily Unique Visitors

This chart displays the estimated Google Analytics visitor data. It is valuable in creating ballpark figures of your competitor’s monthly/annual traffic.

Age

What would demographics data be without age. Here is a nice breakdown of the age groups it features.

Education

Education is also an important feature of demographics, and the placement tool provides some excellent data.

Gender

Again the tool provides really nice gender demographics.

Household Income

Cha-ching. Nothing like having more data on the household income of your target audience.

Sites Also Visited

I found this data to be extremely valuable. It provides a list of related websites that can be scoured for data.

Audience Interest

This metrics provides information on related areas of interest.

 The affinity score, which appears on a site’s profile page, shows the relationship between audiences of two sites or between a site and a keyword. That is, the affinity score estimates how many times more likely you are to reach an audience who visits a specific site or searches for specific keywords versus an audience on the internet overall.

Where Does the Data Come From

This is always one of the first questions I asked when I am reviewing data. Where is the data coming from? It is of no use to collect data that is being mined from outdated sources. I could probably have paraphrased this content but I think Google did a nice job of explaining it. Here is their official statement.

DoubleClick Ad Planner combines information from a variety of sources including anonymized, aggregated Google Toolbar data from users who have opted in to enhanced features,  publisher opt-in anonymous Google Analytics data, opt-in external consumer panel data, and other third-party market research. The data is aggregated over millions of users and powered by computer algorithms.

In addition, DoubleClick Ad Planner only shows results for sites that receive a significant amount of traffic, and enforces minimum thresholds for inclusion in the tool.

The Drawbacks of the Tool

Like many competitive analysis tools, the placement tool only provides data for websites that meet certain criteria relating to their traffic and quality score (among other things). So if you are looking to mine your regional competitors websites for data you may be out of luck.

Corporate SEO training appears to have gained some traction in the last few months. Companies, especially large organizations, have started to pull their SEO in house as a way to control their online reputation (insert embarrassing JCPenny reference here). So I felt it was important to cover/disclose some of the key features I believe should be included in all Corporate SEO Training sessions.

1. The History of SEO

To know where you are going you need to look at where you came from. This reigns true in the SEO industry as well. By examining the history of SEO you are able to understand and identify how the industry has evolved over the last 15 odd years. Examining the history of SEO also means examining techniques that were successful in the past, are successful today, and will most likely be successful in the future.

2. Ranking Factors

What factors translate into positive rankings? That’s the big questions. Evaluating ranking factors is extremely important to creating an effective SEO campaign. Building the right links from the right sources, and avoiding sources that provide little value is the key to success.

3. Keyword Research

The power of an “s” is amazing. One little “s” added or subtracted from a word can equate to millions of lost or gained search results (iphone = 151,000,000 results, iphones = 3,350,000 results). The subtle and not so subtle differences make keyword research absolutely vital. The problem is where to start, which tools to use, and how to build a campaign on piles of ranking data. A corporate training session should answer these questions and provide detailed information on the Keyword Research tools that are available.

4. Onsite Factors

Onsite factors are easy to control and can generate excellent results for a website. Long gone are the days of keyword stuffing and meta data manipulation. Today it is about creating a well structured website that abides by Google’s best practices, freely flows Google Juice to key pages, is relevant for specific keywords and oh ya… is speedy fast.

5. Link Building

Link building is awesome. It is one of the most fun and exciting parts of the SEO process as each link is like a little “Cha Ching” for your website. Much like onsite factors, link building has changed significantly over the last few years. The use of directories, article hubs, blog commenting, and forum spam, while still effective, can lead to penalties in the long run. The old adage “Content Is King” has continued to reign true. Today, developing a strategy for gaining organic links is the most effective way to not only increase your website’s rankings but also build mind-share within the online community.

6. Social Networking Strategies

Social networking is the thorn in many SEO’s side, and it refuses to be go away. Both Google and Bing have publicly released statements confirming that Twitter and Facebook influence organic rankings. The integration of social signals within the Google Algorithm, in particular, has been realized with the release of Google Plus and the Google +1 button. The main take-away is that social interactions between friends, family, colleagues, ect. are going to have a continued impact on organic search rankings in the future.

7. SEO Tools

What is a carpenter without his hammer or a mechanic without his wrench? Having the right set of tools at your disposal ensure you maximize the effectiveness of your campaigns while at the same time maximizing your ability to track them. Conclusion

Corporate SEO Training and SEO in general seem to be popular buzzwords today. However, investing time in building a successful web presence can have a significant impact on your business in the future. As more and more users come online each day, and as traditional forms of advertising continue to slide, search engines will strive to fill the gap. The big question as always is “Are you getting found?”

1. Logo

This is marketing 101; a business without a logo is like a bird without wings.

A logo is the foundation on which an effective brand is built; it is the first step in the branding process and  it sets the tone for the rest of your marketing material. This includes selecting a colour palette, iconography, typography and the overall “feel” associated with your brand.

• TIP: A Logo should be legible at any size, whether it is beaming from a 40 ft billboard or quietly sitting at the bottom of a business card. So make sure to review your logo at sizes ranging from small to large, this will save you major headaches down the road.

2. Business Cards

You don’t get an opportunity to make a great first impression twice.

Have you ever received a business card and thought “Wow, this is really cool”? Of course you have, we all have, and I’ll bet your first impression was that the person who gave you the card was serious about their business. Conversely, have you ever received a business card that looked like it had been printed on a home printer? Ya so have I, and I’ll bet your first impression was that the person wasn’t serious about their business.

A well designed business card does a lot of the talking for you, it is an excellent ice breaker and it positions you as a serious professional.

3. Website

A website is the most effective way to market your business.

Newspaper advertising is in serious decline, and Yellow Pages advertising will soon be toast. So what will replace these titans of traditional advertising? The latest trends on Canada’s internet usage show an increase of 106.5% over the last 10 years, and there is no end in sight.

Websites are an amazing way to connect with customers in an informal way. People can review a business, its services, and information all from the comfort of their home. The web has also created a platform for consumers to share information about products and services they find valuable.

The latest stats suggest that about 80% of consumers are researching products or services online prior to making a purchase. If this trends hold true, your business cannot afford to be left out of the conversation.

4. Facebook Page

If you haven’t heard of Facebook you’ve been living under a rock for the last six years.

Facebook is the most popular social networking website in the world, and it currently has over 500 million active users! Many business are nervous about creating a Facebook page because there is limited control over who, and what users post. Although these are legitimate concerns the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Facebook enables businesses to connect with prospective clients in an informal, relaxed environment. These connections strengthen brand messages and keeps your business top of mind.

Let me just repeat one point again; Facebook has 500 MILLION users! That’s 500 million reasons to develop a business page today.

5. Newsletter

Paper newsletters may be a thing of the past but digital newsletters are just starting to come into their own.

Digital newsletters share the same benefits as other online marketing techniques, they are inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and they provide statistical data on visitors. A newsletter can be custom designed to match your branding and distributed for as low as 1 cent per contact.

Also, newsletters can be integrated into a customer relations management tool, which automatically sends information to prospective clients, taking the guess work out of managing leads.

6. Letterhead

We are not a paperless society quite yet, so the need for a professionally designed letterhead is as important today as ever.

A professional letterhead can be used for a variety of different applications, once again strengthening your brand. Common uses are invoices, testimonials, thank you letters, press releases, and quotes.

7. Envelope

An envelope is an envelope, they haven’t changed much in over a two hundred years, however, they are still important in creating a branded experience.

Adding a logo to an envelope once again strengthens your brand, it positions you as a serious, professional business, and it allows you to reinforce your messaging.

Brochures are a great presentation tool and act as a snap-shot of your business.

Brochures can be used to outline your services, products, experience, and highlight testimonials. They can be valuable at trade shows, when giving presentations, or as a leave behind at an event. Much of marketing is about building relationships, and brochures can be a quick and easy way to provide new contacts with information on your business.

9. Presentation Folder

Whether your business consists of B to B or B to C, you will most likely need a presentation folder.

Presentation Folders are great, they allow you to stuff all kinds of informational material into a neat package. One of the most popular uses of a presentation folder is to stuff it with client specific one sheets. 10. PowerPoint Presentation

There will come a time in your business career that you will need to give a formal presentation. It may be to a prospective client, internally to your staff, or at a networking group or conference. Bottom line is to be prepared, and have the tools you need to succeed.

PowerPoint is still the most popular presentation tool available today because of its easy to use interface and functionality. However, the default templates leave something to be desired. Once again a professionally designed PowerPoint template reinforces your brand, and presents you as a serious professional.

So that is my list of 10 Marketing Pieces All Should Have. In conclusion I’d like to leave you with something to chew on; whether it’s online marketing or traditional advertising one fact reins true, if you don’t market to your customers someone else will.

This is a little known fact but Toronto is not the only major city in Canada. Infact, Calgary, Alberta is home to one of the largest online marketing communities in the world. Our city of just over 1,000,000 hockey-loving, beer-drinking, cattle-rustling residents is also the home of Critical Mass (one of the largest web development companies in the world), Anduro Marketing (Co-developer of the SEO Browser), Media Dog (probably the most talented web design agency I’ve ever seen), and (my Calgary online marketing company “insert shameless plug here”).

Our city is awash in online marketing meet-ups, social networking breakfasts, and Digital Alberta events, however, the SEO community could use a kick start.

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November that raises funds and awareness for prostate cancer. As a tribute to this momentous month of manly mayhem and since my upper lip is sprouting prickly, black, cancer-fighting allies, I’ve decided to create an entire blog to the growth, style, people, and design behind moustaches.
